Detailed Instructions for Tasks
Leave a comment on infoport
- Using your browser, go to infoport.
- Choose a post and click on "Comments".
- Click on "Post a Comment".
- Write a (relevant ;-) ) comment and leave it with your Blogger username (do not use "anonymous" or "comment as a different user")
- Using your browser, go "home" to infoport.
Setting Up an Account on blogger.com
- Using your web browser, go to blogger.com
- Click on Create your blog now
- Choose a username, password, and display name. Enter your e-mail address, and accept terms. Click "Continue"
- Name your blog and choose blog address. Click "Continue"
- Choose a template. You can see the template better by clicking on the samples. Click "Continue"
- You have your own blog! Click "Start Posting"
- Click on "Back to Dashboard" (upper corner)"
- Click on "Blogger Help" (right side bar)"
- Click on "Blogger Basics". Read to find out more about blogs (read what you find relevant and come back when necessary).
- Click on "Blogger" (upper bar)" to go back to Dashboard
Publish a post on your blog
- On the Blogger dashboard, click on your blog's name
- Click on "Create a New Post"
- Make sure the editor is in "Compose" mode -- click on the "compose" tab.
- Write your first post to your course blog -- say something nice! ;-) You can use some text editing functions in the editor: "bold", "italics", etc.
- Click "Preview" to check how your post looks like before you submit it. Click "Hide Preview" to return
- When you are ready, click "Publish Post".
- Blogger will work for a while, when it reaches 100%, click on the "View Blog" tab. Enjoy your blog, it's now official!
Tweak your blog
- Go back to your Blog's Dashboard, click its name.
- Click the settings tab.
- On the "Basic" tab, enter a description of your blog. Include your name, and mention that it is a blog for the I-101 course
- On the "Formatting" tab, choose appropriate time formats and time zone.
- On the "Site Feed" tab, set Publish Site Feed to "Yes".
Create a a post about the Library of Babel with link to Infoport
- On the Blogger dashboard, click on your blog's name
- Click on "Create a New Post"
- Make sure the editor is in "Compose" mode -- click on the "compose" tab.
- Write something about the Library of Babel story
- Add a link to Infoport in this message: Highlight anchor text for link (i.e. Infoport), click on link icon (looks like a chain over a globe), add URL, press "OK".
- Click "Preview" to check how your post looks like before you submit it. Click "Hide Preview" to return
- When you are ready, click "Publish Post".
- Blogger will work for a while, when it reaches 100%, click on the "View Blog" tab.
Create News Reader Account
- Create an account at Bloglines. Click register (upper right) and follow procedure.
- Click on "My Feeds" tab
- Add your blog's and Infoport's feeds to the Bloglines reader: click "add" (under "My Feeds"), enter your blog's URL, click "subscribe". Repeat procedure for Infoport's URL. You can now check when new posts are added!
- Manage (add and delete) feeds: using the procedure just above, add other blog or news feeds (e.g. add http://nytimes.com). Delete default feed "Bloglines|news".
- Export subscription file. On "My Feeds" tab, click "Edit", right-click "export subscriptions", choose option "Save Target As", save file on your computer.
